  CULTURAL PRESERVATION Cultural preservation is the act of using well-designed methodologies to maintain cultural heritage. WAYS OF PRESERVING OUR CULTURE As cultures are based on beliefs, they are not static, they change over time hence the need to preserve them for the generation yet unborn. Museums: A museum is a place where documents, materials, artefacts are stored and displayed. Symbols: A symbol can refer to an object, picture, mark or image which has a particular meaning for people. Example, the Nigeria flag and Coat of Arms. Buildings: Buildings also tell a story about our culture. The building is a way of preserving our culture for future generations. Fashion: Our clothes and accessories are part of our culture. These clothes and accessories can be preserved. Example, 'aso oke' in Yoruba land.   Festivals:  Festivals helps us preserve our culture because their rituals, events and customs remind us what our ancestors practised and believed.   CAPITALISM Capitalism: This is a social and economic system in which individuals, companies and organizations own the means of production and maximize profit. The basic features of Capitalism: i. There is much economic competition in the country ii.   There are social classes iii.  There is a free market Advantages of capitalism    1.   There is a high level of employment      2.   Economic growth is very fast Disadvantages of capitalism    1.   There is a wide between the rich and the poor    2.  There is usually a high level of corruption    3.  A lot  of waste occurs because of unhealthy competition Countries that practice capitalism are: Nigeria, Kenya, USA, Britain, France and Cote d’Ivoire SOCIALISM: This is an economic system in which the major factors of economic production, distribution and exchange are in the hands of the government.   PAUL’S MISSION MEMORY VERSE: Acts 13:2 “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” A missionary is a person who travels from place to place preaching the word of God and the good news to people. THE SELECTION OF PAUL AND BARNABAS   In the church at Antioch, there were some prophets and teachers among whom were Barnabas, Simeon, Lucius, Manaen and Paul.  Here Paul and Barnabas were selected for the first missionary journey. PAUL AT ANTIOCH IN PISIDIA Paul and Barnabas travels to Seleucia, Salamis, Paphos and  Perga to preach the gospel. From Perga, they went to Antioch  in Pisidia. It was here that Silas joined Paul. PAUL AT LYSTRA AND DERBE From Iconium, Paul and Silas travelled to Lystra. Here Paul  healed a lame man and the people were so happy but others  became jealous and beat up Paul. After here, Paul and Silas  made their way to Derbe. PAUL AT CORINTH This was Paul’s second missionary journey. Paul met a couple  here

ACTS 6:1-7 (EQUITABLE DISTRIBUTION)   MURMURING IN THE EARLY CHURCH To murmur is to grumble, to show discontent. It is also to  whisper in low tones to express displeasure; especially when  a group of people realize that things are not being done the the right way or they are being discriminated against. There was discrimination among members of the early  church. This came about during the distribution of food and  other things. The Jews who were from Jerusalem and  Palestine ( Hebrews ) were given special treatment while the   Jews born outside Jerusalem and Palestine (Grecian Jews or   Hellenists) especially the widows were treated differently.  They were discriminated against and were not given the food  and other things they requested for. TYPES OF MARRIAGE-YEAR 7

Types of Marriage                    Major Types of Marriages  1.  Christian marriage:  A Christian marriage is a marriage which has been instituted and functions according to biblical principles. It is a marriage between one  man  and one  woman  ( Genesis 2:24 ,  Matthew 19:4 , 5 ).  In a Christian marriage, there is no room for  multiple  wives or husbands. Neither is a marriage between two men or women a marriage according to biblical principles. A Christian marriage is a covenant between one man and one woman for life.  2.  Islamic marriage:  In  Islamic  law (sharia),  marriage  (nikāḥ نکاح) is a legal and social contract between two individuals.  Marriage  is an act of  Islam  and is strongly recommended.  Polygyny is permitted in  Islam  under some conditions, but polyandry is forbidden.  3. Traditional marriage: This type of marriage is according to  the culture and traditions of certain people.  In traditional marriage, polygamy is allowed but polyandry is a taboo. 4. Cou

  JESUS PRAYED TO THE FATHER Memory Verse: Matthew 6:9-13 "Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven". A prayer  is an act of communicating with God. It expresses praise, thanksgiving, confession and request.          JESUS PRAYED FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS: 1. To show an example of how to pray to His disciples. 2. He prayed to honour God and glorify Him. 3. He prayed to give thanks to God. THE CONTENT OF JESUS' PRAYER: A. Adoration B.   JESUS CALMS THE STORM (MARK 4:35-41) Memory verse: Mark 4:38   "...Teacher, do you not care if we perish?"   One day, Jesus and his disciples were travelling by sea in a  boat and Jesus was tired so he fell asleep.   And there came a  great storm that made the disciples be afraid.  They woke Jesus up, saying: "Teacher, do you not care if  we  perish?" When Jesus woke up from the sleep, he said to the storm: "Peace! Be still." And there was a great calm.  The disciples were very surprised at the miracle and said to one   another: "Who then is this, that even the sea and wind obey him?"

  TOPIC: JESUS AND HIS FAMILY Jesus and His siblings. Matt. 13: 53-56; 12: 46-50 After the birth of Jesus, Joseph and Mary had other children,  both boys and girls. The boys were James, Joseph, Simon  and Judas . The names of Jesus’ sisters were not mentioned. Jesus obeyed His parents LK 2: 41-52 Jesus grew up to become an obedient, disciplined and  hardworking child. He obeyed all instructions were given to him.  He was very respectful to his parents and polite to all other  people in the community. He helped his parents to do all the  household work. He never told a lie and he was honest in all  that he said and did. Everybody spoke well of him. Jesus attended the synagogue school   Jesus attended the synagogue school in Nazareth.  They were taught how to read and write , they were also  taught everything about God’s dealing with their forefathers .  They learnt about the important festivals of the Jews and the  reasons for celebrating them .   CULTURE Culture is the sum total of people's way of life. It is simply the way people live, including their values and beliefs. THE ELEMENTS OF CULTURE The following are some of the elements of culture: 1. Family System : Our culture determines the type of families we belong to. Some culture accept polygamous family while others do not.   2 . Language: All cultures have their own languages. It is one of the unique elements of culture.   3 . Food and Agriculture: The food we eat depends on the plants and crops that grow in the area in which we live.   4. Clothing: In Nigeria, people dress differently according to where they come. You can identify a typical Nigerian from his or her dress.   5. Religion: People's religions differ according to their culture.  Example, in Nigeria we Muslims and Christians as well as  traditional worshippers.

  THE FEEDING OF THE FIVE THOUSAND (John 6:5-14) Memory Verse: John 6:5 "...How are we to buy bread, so  that these people may eat?" One day, Jesus was preaching to a crowd numbering five  thousand and when it was evening, they were all hungry and the  disciples wanted to send them away because there was no  food but Jesus refused. A small boy among the crowd gave Jesus five loaves of bread  and two fish. Jesus then prayed to God and God used His  power to multiply the five loaves of bread and two fish. The people ate and were satisfied and the disciples collected  the leftover and it filled twelve baskets.
