THE BAPTISM OF JESUS 2020/2021

  The Baptism of Jesus Christ                   (Matthew 3:13-17)      Baptism is a Christian Religious rite of sprinkling water on to a person's forehead or of immersing them in water symbolizing purification and admission to Christian Church.  Memory verse: Matthew 3:17:  And a voice from heaven said,  “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased." At the beginning of Jesus Christ’s ministry, He travelled from Galilee to the Jordan River. John the Baptist was there preaching and baptising the people. Jesus went to John and asked to be baptised. John did not want to do it, because he thought that Jesus should baptise him. He asked Jesus why He needed to be baptised. WHO IS GOD? (YEAR 7)

Who is God?   According to the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary  defines God as the Supreme Being of Judaism, Christianity  and Islam, creator and ruler of the universe.      God is generally accepted as the creator of the world.  When there was no heaven and earth there has been God.  God is the uncreated spirit being who existed before the  beginning of time.     God is the sovereign Lord of the universe, because He is  the creator of all creatures. God is also the provider of all  needs. Before He created man He knew that man would eat,  and so he created countless plants bearing fruits for him to  eat.     He has final authority and power over everything created.  E.g. weather, seasons, storms, floods, earthquakes, man,  sun, moon, mountains, rivers etc. Attributes of God: 1. God is the Almighty 2. The Creator 3. The Omnipotent 4. Omniscience 5. Omnipresent 6.  Sovereign God  7. The Great Healer 8. T he Sustainer of heaven and earth 9.  God is Love 10. God is Kind 1

  THE STORY OF THE BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST Memory verse: Luke 2:14 "Glory to God in the highest  and on earth peace among men whom he is pleased. Jesus was born during the reign of King Herod and Emperor  Caesar Augustus who was the Head of State of the country. Jesus was born in a city called Bethlehem. Mary and Joseph  were his earthly parents. He was born in a stable. A stable is a  little hut where horses were kept and fed. After was born,  Mary covered Him with white cloth and laid Him in a manger.  Immediately after his birth, the shepherd visited him and  praised God.   After the shepherds, come the wise-men  (magi) from the East, they worshipped and presented the  following gifts:    1.  Gold 22.  Frankincense 33.    Myrrh . Meaning of the gifts The gold presents his kingship . The frankincense presents his priesthood The myrrh stands for his death on the cross.

  THE FIRST FOUR DISCIPLES OF JESUS        Who is a disciple? A Disciple means a pupil or someone who is undergoing training under a superior teacher Although Jesus had twelve disciples, he first chose four of them.  The first person was Andrew who happened to the disciple of John the  Baptist. Andrew left John and became the disciple of Jesus. Andrew  later brought his brother Simon whom Jesus changed his name to  Cephas (Peter). The third person was Philip whom, Jesus found on his way to  Galilee and Philip was the one that brought Nathaniel.  Although Nathaniel did not believe in Jesus at first later on he  did. It was Nathaniel who asked, “Can anything good come out of  Nazareth?” Reasons Jesus chose the disciples  1.       He needed people to help him preach the word of God. 2.       He wanted the disciples to become ambassadors after his death.

POVERTY AND DISEASE Poverty is the state of being very poor. All over the world, there are people who live in poverty. SOME OF THE FACTORS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO POVERTY ARE: v Over-population v Under-development v Corrupt governments v War v Debt v Diseases Also, Infectious diseases such as malaria , tuberculosis ,  cholera and diarrhoea occur as a result of lack of clean  water, bad sanitation and lack of access to good food.  Also, malnutrition and diseases such as kwashiorkor and dysentery affect children. SOME OF THE WAYS POVERTY CAN BE ERADICATED  ARE: 11. The government and people must make sure women are educated. 22. The government must provide better healthcare and education for poor people 33. Mary and Joseph MEMORY VERSE: LUKE 1:38   "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; Let it be me  according to your word." Joseph was from the house of David and he lived in Nazareth , in Galilee . He was a carpenter . Joseph and Mary were engaged to get married before the angel visited Mary . The name of the Angel is Angel Gabriel . The Angel told Mary that she will give birth to Jesus who would be the saviour of the world.
