WHO IS GOD? (YEAR 7)

Who is God?

 According to the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary

 defines God as the Supreme Being of Judaism, Christianity

 and Islam, creator and ruler of the universe.

     God is generally accepted as the creator of the world.

 When there was no heaven and earth there has been God.

 God is the uncreated spirit being who existed before the

 beginning of time.


    God is the sovereign Lord of the universe, because He is

 the creator of all creatures. God is also the provider of all

 needs. Before He created man He knew that man would eat,

 and so he created countless plants bearing fruits for him to

 eat.

   He has final authority and power over everything created.

 E.g. weather, seasons, storms, floods, earthquakes, man,

 sun, moon, mountains, rivers etc.


Attributes of God:

1. God is the Almighty

2. The Creator

3. The Omnipotent

4. Omniscience

5. Omnipresent

6.  Sovereign God 

7. The Great Healer

8. The Sustainer of heaven and earth

9.  God is Love

10. God is Kind

11. God is Just

12. God is Holy

13. God is the most Powerful

14. God is Merciful

15.  God is Invisible. etc


Names of God in Nigerian Languages:

Various tribes in Nigeria call God different names based on

 their beliefs and attributes of God e.g.


1. The Yoruba call God Olodumare, Olorun, etc., meaning the

 owner of sky, the owner of heaven and king of wonders

 respectively.


2. The Igbos call God - Chukwu or Chineke meaning the

 Great  Spirit, God the creator.


 3. Nupe call God Soko, that is the owner of the world.


4. The Hausas/Fulanis call God - Ubangiji, meaning the

 Supreme Being.


5. The Urhobos call God - Oghene, that is, the creator.


6. The Ijaws call God Tamara, Egbesu that is, the supreme

 protector.


7. Ibibio/Efikcall Abasi meaning Great God.


8. Itsekiri call God Oritse, meaning Creator or Mighty God.


9. The Edos call Osanobua meaning the Source of all being

 and sustainer of the world.


10.The Gbagyi call God Shekwoi meaning one who was there before their ancestors.

11. The Idomas call God Owoicho meaning God of the heaven and the earth.
