WORLD WAR II (1939-1945)-YEAR 5
WORLD WAR II (1939-1945)
After World War I, Germany had to pay reparations to the
winning forces and lost her territories. But, Italy was not
satisfied with the treaty because she was not given enough
reparations to offset her losses in the war.
However, Adolf Hitler promised the Germans that he would
get them more land and Germany disregarded the Treaty of
Versailles and increased her army and acquired more
weapons. During the war, Hitler persecuted the Jews and
other minorities and took over Austria and part of
Czechoslovakia and invaded Poland.
The Germans and Italians, known as the Axis Power, began a
plan to conquer all of Europe but the Allied Powers of Britain,
France, USA and the Soviet Union fought against the Axis
Powers. Later on, Japan joined the Axis Powers and attacked
Pearl Harbour, a US Naval base and this made the USA to
dropped two atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Finally, the
Allied Powers defeated the Axis Powers in 1945.
THE CREATION OF THE UNITED NATIONS
The United Nations (UN)
was founded after the end of World War II in 1945. Fifty (50) countries signed
the charter. The objective was to solve conflicts between nations and prevent
