SUMMARY
CONSTITUTION
This is the basic rules, regulations
and principles that govern people’s behaviour.
TYPES OF CONSTITUTION
1. Written Constitution:
This is where all the rules and laws which govern the country are written in
one document. Example, Nigeria’s constitution
2. Unwritten constitution:
This is where all the country’s rules and laws are not contained in just one
document. Example, Britain and Italy have an unwritten constitution.
3. Rigid constitution:
A rigid constitution requires special procedures before rules and laws can be
changed.
4. Flexible constitution: A flexible constitution does not require any
special procedure before it can be changed
NIGERIAN
CONSTITUTION
The current Nigerian constitution was written in 1999 and it
adopts the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights among other things which
states that:
All people are born equal and should have equal rights.
Everyone has the right to live, the right to be free and the right
to be safe.
Everyone has the right to freedom of
expression etc.
GOVERNMENT
A government is the group of persons elected or appointed to govern or
rule a country.
Here are some of the forms of government that a country may have:
Autocracy: This is a form of the government in which a single leader or party has absolute control over all the
citizens of the country.
Dictatorship: This is a government by
a single person or group that is responsible to the people or the elected
members of the government.
Monarchy: This
form of government usually has a king or a queen as the head of the country.
Democracy: This is a form
of government in which the people have the power to elect their leaders.
Presidential Government: This is a type of government in which the
government has three arms: namely; the legislative the executive and the judicial
arms
Parliamentary Government: This is a type of democratic government in
which the power to make and execute laws is held by a parliament.
