CONSTITUTION

This is the basic rules, regulations and principles that govern people’s behaviour.

 TYPES OF CONSTITUTION

1. Written Constitution: This is where all the rules and laws which govern the country are written in one document. Example, Nigeria’s constitution

2. Unwritten constitution: This is where all the country’s rules and laws are not contained in just one document. Example, Britain and Italy have an unwritten constitution.

3. Rigid constitution: A rigid constitution requires special procedures before rules and laws can be changed.

4. Flexible constitution: A flexible constitution does not require any special procedure before it can be changed

NIGERIAN CONSTITUTION

The current Nigerian constitution was written in 1999 and it adopts the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights among other things which states that:

All people are born equal and should have equal rights.

Everyone has the right to live, the right to be free and the right to be safe.

Everyone has the right to freedom of expression etc.
