CRS REVISION SUMMARY NOTE YEAR 6 JUNE 9, 2020

MODERATION IN CHRISTIAN LIFE

MEMORY VERSE: PROVERBS 23:20

"Be not among winebibbers or among gluttonous eaters

of meat; for the drunkard and the glutton will come to

poverty..."

THINGS THAT WE MUST DO MODERATELY AS CHRISTIANS

1. Drinking: We should drink both water and wine moderately to avoid being uncomforted.

2. Eating: Food is good for the body but overtaking it could lead to indigestion. The Bible warns us about over-

eating. Proverbs 23:20

3. Dressing: Clothes protect us from heat and cold.

However, we must avoid dressing that looks abnormal

4. Drugs: We must not involve ourselves in self-

medication. Also, drugs like cigarette, marijuana, cocaine should be avoided.

5. Talking: This is an act of communication but we must control what we say. Even the Bible warns us to tame our tongues. James 3:6

Moral Lesson: Moderation is a good attitude; however, it requires self-control.

Topic: Some Evils of Alcoholism

Bible passages: Proverbs 20:1; 23:20-21;

29:33; 1Corinthians 6:10; Galatians 5:21

Learning objectives: At the end of the lesson, you should be able to:

1. Define alcoholism

2. Mention and explain the evils of alcoholism.

Evils of Alcoholism

What is alcohol?

Alcohol is a strong drink. It is made from fermented

fruits. Alcohol makes a person drunk when taken in large quantities.

An alcoholic is a drunkard who takes too much alcohol until he gets drunk.

Therefore, alcoholism means the bad habit of drinking too much alcohol.

The Bible condemns alcoholism because of the dangers

connected with drinking too much alcohol.

The following are some of the evils of alcoholism

1. Alcoholism weakens the body and makes the

brain dull: A drunkard loses all his senses when he is

drunk. He is unable to reason correctly. According to

Proverbs 23:33, when you drink too much alcohol, "your

eyes will see strange things and your mind utter perverse things".

2. Alcoholism makes one lose self-control and behave

foolishly: The drunkard is unable to control himself. He

always quarrels and fights those around him.

3. Alcoholism can make a person become poor in life:

The drunkard spends all his money on drinking. He is

always unable to buy clothes for himself and feed his

family. Such a drunkard will end up becoming a poor man. Proverbs 23:20-21.

4. Alcoholism affects the health of a person: There are dangerous chemicals in the alcohol which damage the brain and the liver of the human body.
So, alcoholism may lead to the early death of a person.

5. Alcoholism can make a person lose eternal life: When we are in the habit of drinking too much alcohol, we risk the danger of losing eternal life in heaven.
According to 1Corinthians 6:10, No drunkard will inherit the kingdom of God.

Moral lesson
1. God wants us to abstain or reject taking alcohol so that we can avoid the dangerassociated with it.

DECISION-MAKING

Memory Verse: Ephesians 5:6 "Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of the time, because the days are evil."

Decision is the choice that one makes after thinking about what is the best thing to do. Therefore, decision-making is the process of choosing what to do.

IMPORTANCE OF DECISION-MAKING

1. It helps to identify various options

2. It allows for the ranking of choices

3. It allows you to set your goals and work out how to achieve them

4. It allows you to identify problems that may arise and come up with possible solutions.

5. It minimizes mistakes; you do the right thing at the right time.

 EXAMPLES OF DECISION MAKING

There are different situations in which decision-making is required.

Some common examples are as follows:

 What to eat

 When to sleep

What type of gift to buy for a friend

Which dress to wear to Church

 When to pray

 Which television programme to watch

 When to do homework

 When to go to school

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF DECISION MAKING

Memory Verse: Ephesians 5:6 "Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of the time, because the days are evil."

ADVANTAGES OF GOOD DECISION

1. Good decisions save time

2. They help us to get good results

3. They help us to achieve our goals

4. They make us happy and feel fulfilled

5. When we make good decisions, our parents and teachers will be proud of us

 DISADVANTAGES OF BAD DECISION

1. Bad decisions waste time

2. Bad decisions also make us lose good things

3. Bad decisions bring shame to us and our parents

LOVE OF MONEY

Memory Verse: I Timothy 6:6 "There is great gain in godliness with contentment; for we brought nothing into the world and we cannot take anything out of the world..."

Money is the commodity that we use to buy goods and services while wealth is a large amount of money and possessions.

THE BASIC USES OF MONEY

We use the money to have basic needs of life  like:

Food, shelter, clothing, healthcare, education and recreation. We also use the money to serve God and help other people.

DANGERS OF EXCESSIVE LOVE OF MONEY AND WEALTH

The Bible teaches us to earn money through hard work and

honest means but excessive love of money is evil. When we

love money too much, all our desires and efforts are focused

on making more money by all means even if such means hurt

 other people of offend God.

THE RIGHT ATTITUDE TO MONEY

Rather than love money, we should love God who is able to

help us earn money in the right way and who gives life and

happiness in addition. We should also separate ourselves

from excessive love of money.
